At approximately 2000 hrs, I was contacted at the police station by the owner of MV#2's wife. After further investigation (see incident report #19002425) it was determined that the operator of MV#2 at the time of the accident was the vehicle owner's brother. I spoke with Operator of MV#2 on the phone and he stated that the road was icy and slippery due to snow and he crashed into the back of MV#1. He stated he was nervous and thought he had only hit the sidewalk curb. As he was at a complete stop, MV1 collided with his rear driver side bumper in an effort to avoid a head on collision with MV3. Owner of M/V 1 states she was parked on the side of the handicapped parking stall thinking it was ok to park there. She then ran in to the JCC for approximately one minute and when she returned she observed her driver's side front door was struck. I observed significant damage to the door frame and the door would not close. The owner called for a private tow to remove the vehicle. The staff at the JCC stated that a Martha Bixby gave her number and stated that she observed a black colored car with MA reg. # 934HH4 strike M/V 1. I attempted to call the number and left a message. The listing for that plate comes back to a 2010 Lexus ES350 color gray. I was then showed the video surveillance from the JCC's cameras and it shows an older white female exiting the lobby wearing a winter hat and carrying a bag with purple flower designs on it. She then walks through the lot and enters a gray Lexus ES350. The Lexus then starts backing out of the spot. The Lexus then continues backwards in to the other side of the parking stalls and strikes M/V 1 on the driver's side front door. The Lexus then pulls forward and leaves the scene without stopping or providing her information. As the Lexus is leaving, you can see there is a dent to the driver's side rear bumper. The video is not clear enough to see the plate on the Lexus or clearly see the operator's face. After, I located a number for the owner of the Lexus M/V 2 (Tania Lefman). I spoke to Lefman on the phone and she stated that she was backing out of the JCC parking lot at that time and felt a tiny bump to her rear end. She says that she could not stop in time due to the icy parking lot and then left the area thinking that nothing was wrong, it was only minor. I advised her there was significant damage to the other car. The operator of MV1, Patrick Carresi (MA: S73958042), stated he was operating a City of Newton owned 2016 Ford F350 plow truck (MA MVN: M94756) turning left onto Ionia Street from Auburndale Av. Carresi stated as he took the turn, the rear passenger corner of the truck made contact with the drivers side front panel of MV2 which was parked on the side of the road facing southbound. I observed minor damage to the rear of MV1. MV2 received heavy front end damage with the entire front panel torn off. Carresi reported no injuries. Carresi works for the Utilities Department with the DPW. The operator of MV2, Donna Canavan (MA: S57637058), stated she was parked inside her 2005 Honda CRV (MA: 8ZEE40) facing southbound on Ionia Street. Canavan stated as the plow truck took the turn onto Ionia Street from Auburndale Av its rear corner of the truck struck the front panel of her parked vehicle ripping the panel off. I observed significant damage to the front panel area of MV2. Canavan reported no injuries and was able to drive her vehicle from the scene. I then spoke with the operator of V2, Ms. Nunnally stated that a vehicle had abruptly pulled out of the driveway of 717 Centre St. She stated she applied her brakes immediately to avoid contact and pulled to the right. Ms. Howe removed valuables from the vehicle. Upon my arrival at the crash scene with Sgt Devine I was briefed by Officers Daly and Anderson, ( see Ofc Daly's report for further information CAD # 20054728 in regard to changes take out against the operator of the truck ) I made the following observations of the crash scene, Nahanton St is a public way in the City of Newton that is a two way roadway divided by an unprotected merdium ( double yellow line ) that runs east to west. The roadway surface was wet due snow and ice. The roadway was plowed and the snow was pushed to the shoulder, althought wet the roadway was icy. There was approximately 2 inches of snow on the shoulders of the roadway. The road was light with overhead head street lights. The posted speed limit is 25 MPH. I observed a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck that had major front end damage. The Chevrolet was at an angle with it's front end facing west bound and resting on the grass shoulder and into a wooded area. The Chevrolet rear was sticking out into the shoulder of the east bound lane of Nahanton St. The passenger side front and rear doors of the Chevrolet had been removed by the fire department to extricate the driver and passenger. The driver and passenger side air bags were deployed . The front passenger side windshield of the Chevrolet was completely missing and the driver's side had completely shattered. The front tires, hood, and engine had been compacted on it's self. The front and rear driver's side doors had been mechanically open by the fire department. The speedometer needle had stopped at 54 MPH. The Chevrolet left the roadway and left tire marks in the snow in the eastbound bike lane of Nahanton St. At a 106.4 feet from the beginning of the tire marks the first point of impact was with two tree stumps that were 3.5 feet from the roadway, four feet tall and 3.5 feet in diameter. The tire marks continue in the east bound bike lane and exit the roadway and onto a dirt shoulder at 136.1 feet from the beginning of the tire marks. The truck continued to the right of a utility pole and then it's passenger side made contact with a tree at 170.8 feet from the begin of the tire marks. The tree was 12 feet from the bike lane approximately 5 feet in diameter. The impact with the tree caused the truck to turn so that the rear was facing north east on the dirt shoulder and bike lane. The final point of rest of the rear passenger side tire was 200 feet from the beginning of the tire marks. The truck's rear diver side tire final point of rest was 209 feet from the beginning of the tire marks. The front driver's side tire was compacted into the trucks engine and the passenger side front tire was located behind the tree approximately 20 feet from the roadway. Sgt Devine took photos of the crash area and of the truck and the disk was download by the NPD's IT Bureau. The truck was towed from the crash scene by Todys's Towing to their lot for storage, I fill out a towed motor vehicle form. There were no reported witness who observed the crash. The crash was reported by an unknown passerby. On arrival, I spoke to the operator of M/V # 1 Alphonse Secinaro MA DL# S88518110 who works for the City of Newton Dept. of Public Works Yard out of 74 Elliot Street. Mr. Secinaro stated at the time he was sanding or cleaning up icy spots on the roadways. He was operating a 2012 International 7 Series color orange (MA Official Reg# M87605) with a plow attached to it. While driving northbound on Cummings Road between number 26 and 34, Secinaro attempted to maneuver his large plow truck between two parked motor vehicles on opposite sides of the roadway. While trying to do so, he struck parked M/V # 2 (14' Honda Pilot MA # 7RT637) on the driver's side rear parking light area. This caused the brake light cover to break and a small dent to the vehicle to the left of that brake cover. I observed M/V # 1 to be parked on the right side of 26 Cummings Road partially on the grass where there is no sidewalk. The other vehicle was parked a little more southbound on the opposite side of the roadway which made it very difficult for the large plow truck to navigate through. I observed no parking restrictions for both sides of the street.
