At 0630 hrs.on 4/21/22, Newton Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of 1146 Chestnut St. for a motor vehicle collision into a tree. Upon arrival, MV#1 was observed with damage to its front end and cracked/broken front windshields. The operator of MV#1 stated he had worked all night and had fallen asleep causing the garbage truck he was operating to veer off of the roadway and into the city owned tree in front of 1146 Chestnut St. The tree itself had been knocked over and was across the roadway. A second tree on the property of 1146 Chestnut St. suffered damage. Further, several large tree limbs had fallen a top of MV#2 which was parked in the driveway of 1146 Chestnut St, but no visible damage was observed. The operator of MV#1 declined medical attention and contacted a private tow to remove MV#1 from the roadway. The operator of MV#2 as well as the homeowner of 1146 Chestnut St. were apprised of the situation. Pictures of the damage were taken on the N498 camera and attached to this report.

On Thursday 4/21/22 at approximately 805 hours while assigned to marked unit n498 I was dispatched to the intersection of Beacon and Chestnut Streets for a report of a motor vehicle crash into a utility pole. Upon arrival I observed two motor vehicles that had crashed in front of 619 Chestnut street and a utility pole also in front of 619 Chestnut Street with significant damage (pole# 85/75). While on scene I interviewed the operator, NUNEZ Ralphie, of Motor Vehicle 1, (MD Reg 5EP2140), who states he just dropped his Girlfriend off at a house on Beacon Street and turned right from Beacon Street onto Chestnut Street and began travelling southbound on Chestnut Street. NUNEZ states as he was driving he felt the steering wheel lock up and the vehicle was heading straight for the Utility Pole. He states he struck the Utility Pole and the force from the crash pushed his vehicle into the Northbound lane of traffic. After speaking with NUNEZ I spoke with the operator, MILLER Michael, of Motor vehicle #2, (Ma reg 1BTT36) who states he was travelling Northbound on Chestnut street when he observed Motor Vehicle#1 drive into the utility pole causing the vehicle to enter his lane of travel. MILLER states he attempted to veer to the right of the road to attempt to avoid the motor vehicle, but was unsuccessful and struck Motor Vehicle#1. Also on scene was, PISANO Christian, who witnessed the crash. See his attached witness statement given to me verbally on scene. 3 pictures were taken of the damage to the utility pole and forwarded to IT to be attached this crash report

THE OPERATOR OF MV 1 STATED SHE WAS TURNING RIGHT ONTO CENTRE AVE FROM CENTRE ST AND WHILE SHE HAD PROPERLY STOPPED IN ORDER TO MERGE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, MV 2 REAR ENDED HER. MV 1 SUSTAINED MODERATE REAR END DAMAGE AND STATED SHE WAS SORE BUT DID NOT WISH TO BE SEEN BY MEDICS. THE OPERATOR OF MV 2 STATED THAT HE WAS TRAVELING BEHIND MV 1, DID NOT SEE HER COME TO A STOP AND REAR ENDED HER. MODERATE DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO MV 2 AND NO INJURIES REPORTED.

OPERATOR 1 OF MV 1 WAS TRAVELING S/B ON BROOKLINE ST BY REDWOOD RD AND STATED THEY WERE TRAVELING GREATER (APPROX 40MPH) THAN THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT (30MPH) AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND CROSSED OVER THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE AND STRUCK THE VERIZON UTILITY POLE (POLE #55/1) PASSENGER WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE BI NEEDHAM. OPERATOR WAS NOT INJURED AND SIGNED A REFUSAL WITH MEDICS. MAJOR DAMAGE TO MV 1, TOWED BY TODYS. VERIZON NOTIFIED FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE POLE. CITATION ISSUED TO OPERATOR 1 (MA T2012684) FOR c89s4A MARKED LANES VIOLATION AND c90s17 SPEEDING. TOWED MV SHEET COMPLETED PER DEPT PROTOCOL.

The operator of MV1 stated he was in the left turn lane, turning westbound on to Washington Street. As he we was turning left on to Washington Street, MV2 was in the left turn only lane and attempted to go straight from Washington street to Centre toward Galen and struck MV1. The operator of MV2 stated he attempted to go straight on to Centre Street from Washington street and struck MV1. MV1 had minor damage to the rear driver side and MV2 had minor damage to the front passenger side. All parties stated they were not injured .

On 4/21/22, I was dispatched to the intersection of Crafts St./California St. for a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle into a tree. Upon arrival, I observed MV#1 had crashed into a tree in front of 315 Craft St. The operator stated the "road was slippery" and he veered off the roadway, hitting the curb, before traveling 20-25 yards on the sidewalk, hitting two tree's. MV#1 sustained heavy front end damage and air bag deployment consistent with colliding into a tree at a decent rate of speed. MV#1 was removed from the roadway by Tody's Tow Service. The operator of Mv#1 was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with injuries. Charges pending at this time for OUI Liquor 2nd Offense, Marked Lanes Violation and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

On 4/22/22 I responded to 101 Charlemont St. for a past MVA that occurred on 4/21/22 at 0700. Operator of MV1 stated they were backing out of their driveway and onto Charlemont St. when MV2 was traveling Eastbound and struck the back of their vehicle. MV1 sustained damage to the rear end. Operator of MV2 stated they were traveling Eastbound on Charlemont when they didn't notice MV1 backing out of their driveway. The front of MV2 hit the rear of MV1. MV1 sustained damage to the front end. MV2 was issued MA Uniform Citation #T1447649 for Ch. 90 Sec. 9 Unregistered Motor Vehicle (Straight Expiration). It should be noted MV2 was down at an auto body shop in Scituate at the time I took the report. As of 4/28/22 the vehicle's registration is now active.
